There’s something so beautifully layered and nuanced in her paintings, full of movement, energy, and life. Her vibrant, bubbly personality really seems to spill straight into the work, giving it a bright, intuitive force.

Sally’s practice unfolds through improvisation, gesture, and revision, hovering between the biomorphic and the domestic, where forms sit just at the edge of recognition. Her paintings feel like they’re always becoming — shifting before they ever fully settle into image or language. When I mentioned this group show to her, she jumped at the opportunity with both hands, which feels so true to the way she approaches her practice: open, responsive, and completely alive to possibility.

Artist Bio

Sally Browne is a Sydney-based painter whose works drift between abstraction, still life, interiors and landscape. Working without a fixed plan, she builds her paintings through layering, improvisation and response, allowing forms to emerge and unravel over time. Balancing awkwardness, humour and vulnerability, her paintings often hover between recognition and collapse, with fragments of objects, flowers, bodies and spaces appearing throughout the surface. 'Portrait of an Overthinker' became less a portrait of a person and more a painting about the experience of thinking itself; circling thoughts, interruptions, uncertainty and all.

To purchase this work please contact Harriet Links through her website.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0648/4318/6360/files/SallyBrowne_Portrait_of_an_overthinker_hero_8a0faa01-ae6f-4a2e-930d-ad16d0fea958.jpg?v=1779163599
