I was so excited when Allison James said yes to being involved in In Good Company. She’s such an incredible talent, and her work feels so fresh, open, and full of life.
What I really admire about Allison is her genuine commitment to community and her generosity in sharing both her practice and her thinking around abstract art. There’s a real sense of openness in the way she engages with others and with her work. Her paintings are sublime — layered, expressive, and full of energy — the kind of work that stays with you long after you’ve seen it.
Artist Bio
Allison James is a contemporary abstract painter inspired by the messy, thrilling terrain of human experience and motherhood. She transforms heightened emotions and unresolved feelings into layered works defined by saturated color, subtle detail, and signature silhouettes she calls her “decoder ring things,” inviting personal interpretation. Her process is both cathartic and reflective—distilling heavier themes into compositions that feel unexpectedly light in their final form. She holds a BFA in Painting, Printmaking, and Drawing, and her work has been featured in The New York Times, Architectural Digest, Medium, and Atlanta Magazine, as well as exhibited in group shows across the United States. She lives in central Georgia with her husband, son, and rescue golden retriever.
