Artist Statement
I am a contemporary abstract artist, exploring ideas of self, identity, loss, and the human experience. As an only child, I’ve always been drawn to the complexities of human relationships and emotional connections. After the recent loss of my father, my work has become more focused on resilience — how we move through challenge, boundaries and how identity is shaped by both relationships and place. My practice is driven by the simplicity of shape, the surface and power of colour. I’m especially interested in scale and how it can create impact and connection for the viewer. Working large allows forms to move beyond the limits of the body, creating a more immersive and heightened experience. I currently live in Brisbane, though Yeppoon in Central Queensland will always be home. Living between the beach, islands, and rainforest as a child, it has deeply influenced my sense of place, and this connection runs through everything I make. Alongside my practice, I’m a secondary Art Teacher (20 years), am a mother of three, have a beautiful dog, and am married to my high school sweetheart — experiences that keep my work grounded in lived life.
