Oil on canvas

125 x 95 cm

2025

I’ve known Lisa Maroney for some time now, and first came across her work at the Glover Art Prize a few years ago. She’s a wonderful artist and an equally generous person, always giving her time and bringing a genuinely positive energy to those around her.

Based in Hobart, Lisa paints still life and landscape with a sensitive attention to light, colour and space. Her still life works draw from the objects and flora in and around her home, while her landscapes reflect her deep connection to the Tasmanian Midlands, where she lives and works on a sheep property.

Lisa has been a finalist in the Glover Art Prize, the Henry Jones Art Prize, and most recently the inaugural Bridge Art Prize. I’m really pleased to share her work here.

About the Work

My painting, Doug at Sunrise, was painted late 2025. The early morning sky that morning on our farm in the Tasmanian Midlands was illuminated with the most incredible pink light. The rising sun made the clouds a pink like no other pink. I rushed out to get a better look, take a reference photo and Doug the Kelpie, our working sheep dog followed me out to check the paddock fences, as he likes to do every morning. So when it came to painting this special image, I had to include Doug, as he was part of the experience that morning.

Lisa Moroney is a painter based in Hobart and the Midlands of Tasmania. Her still life paintings feature the objects everyday life in and around her home. Minimalist objects in her work mixed with fruit and flora aim to convey the intricacies of light and space with an emphasis on colour. When Lisa is not at the easel painting, she works alongside her husband on their sheep property in the Southern Midlands producing wool and lambs. Lisa has a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Tasmania, and has participated in workshops at the National Art School, Sydney. She has been included in many groups shows in Hobart and has shown her work in commercial galleries in Tasmania and Interstate.
