I’ve had the pleasure of crossing paths with Jaclyn Poke a number of times over the past few years — first as fellow finalists in the Henry Jones Art Prize, through exhibitions at Salamanca Arts Centre, and again at Sydney Road Gallery. Jaclyn is a wonderful Tasmanian painter whose work continues to grow from strength to strength.
Living and working on the rugged north west coast of Tasmania, her paintings are deeply connected to place, identity, and the landscape that surrounds her. Working in a contemporary impressionist style, Jaclyn captures the mood, movement, and atmosphere of the coastline with such sensitivity and warmth. Alongside her own practice, her background as a teacher and art therapist brings another layer of care and thoughtfulness to the work she creates.
About the work
I live in the countryside of Tasmania where wild places surround me every day. I came across this little track to a waterfall at Liffey, along the base of the Western Tiers, and it was like stepping back in time. I wanted to capture the ethereal quality of the scene, quite romantic in nature. Losing myself in the bush feels both comforting and imaginative, a simple but lovely escape.
(Shipping approximately $150 within Australia and $300 worldwide.)
