I first connected with Jacqueline Scotcher through Instagram, and later had the pleasure of exhibiting alongside her on Artbid here in Australia. What’s always stood out is her genuine sense of community—she’s a thoughtful and generous presence in the art world.
Jacqueline’s paintings explore what it feels like to move through and connect with a place. Built up through layers of colour and texture, her works often hint at paths and horizons—grounded in landscape, but open and intuitive too.
I really admire her focus on presence and connection in her practice. It feels especially important to celebrate artists like Jacqueline, and the many women shaping painting in such considered, quietly powerful ways.
About the work:
My ‘Many Moons’ series uses lunar shapes, repetition, and colour gradients to evoke a passage of time. In this painting, I considered how some nights or moments in life stand out in memory, punctuating time. I created a grungy surface and centred an illuminated ‘Moon’ that floats above with clarity. I hope this painting evokes a sense of rhythmic balance amidst change and acts aa a reminder to slow down and allow moments to radiate. About Jacquie: Jacqueline Scotcher is interested in making art about what it feels like moving through and connecting with particular environments. Her layered abstract paintings aim to allude to familiar rhythms from the landscape yet provide space for mind wandering and connections with personal internal experiences. Jacqueline has completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts, Honours in Creative Industries and Doctorate in Philosophy (Creative Arts). She has worked as an artist and educator for the past decade. She currently lives in northern NSW with her young family.
