Michelle’s work is such a joyful celebration of colour, texture, and landscape. Her paintings capture not just the appearance of a place, but the feeling and memory of being within it.

What I love most about Michelle’s work is the way she notices the smaller details — the curve of a blade of grass, the shape of a leaf, the layers within. Her process feels intuitive and playful, building rich surfaces through acrylic, ink, pastel, and watercolour pencil. The result is work that feels vibrant, expressive, and full of life — and as Michelle says herself, “I can’t tone down the colour even when I try, it’s just me!”

Artist Statement

Michelle grew up in Melbourne, Victoria, where she pursued a Fine Art degree in painting at Monash University. In 2001, she relocated to Tasmania with her husband and two children and they now reside in Hobart. Michelle’s art practice is a joyful celebration of colour and mark-making, drawing inspiration from the rich layers of the Tasmanian/lutruwita landscape and the island’s natural beauty. From the rugged mountains, native forests and stunning coastlines, the artist captures the essence of Tasmania's unique environment. Michelle’s paintings are a often a memory of a landscape or a feeling of a place and her response to it. Through her exploration with mixed media she creates intuitive and vibrant works.
