Katharine Burke of Slow Going

Wool sculpture

35 x 32cm x 9cm

2026

I’m lucky enough to know Katherine through both work and life — our paths seem to keep crossing in the best ways. We actually first met at university, where I stole her room in Star Street, and these days we mostly share stories about children, creativity, and the juggle of art and life.

Based in Marion Bay, Katherine creates beautiful slow-made work inspired by the Tasmanian landscape, changing seasons, and traditional craft practices. There’s such warmth and intention behind everything she makes — thoughtful pieces that celebrate handmade processes, beautiful natural materials, and a slower pace of living. Her passion for creativity also extends into the wonderful art workshops she runs for both children and adults, creating gentle and welcoming spaces for people to connect through making.

Marion Bay Cray is a hand-knitted work developed through observational knitting – a process of translating close observation directly into stitch. Based on the crayfish observed and caught in Marion Bay and the East Coast of Tasmania, the form was built from my sketches, photographs and firsthand observation. Knitted using Tasmanian wool and built up stitch by stitch, the piece connects material and place and sits somewhere between study and object.

Shipping within Australia $30. Worldwide will be approximately $150.
