I first met Rachel Harris through a drawing academy we both attended alongside Bonny Snowdon, and later reconnected as fellow finalists in the Henry Jones Art Prize — where a real mutual respect for each other’s practice quickly formed.
Based in Hobart, Tasmania, Rachel creates exquisitely detailed coloured pencil drawings of native birds, animals, and the occasional beloved pet. Her work is incredibly precise yet deeply heartfelt — capturing not just feather-by-feather detail, but movement, mood, and life itself.

Rachel Harris is a Hobart-based realism artist whose lifelike drawings put a spotlight on native Tasmanian birds and wildlife. A former scientist, she combines precision with storytelling to spark curiosity, invite connection, and highlight conservation issues. Her work has gained recognition locally and overseas, including as a finalist in the Holmes Prize for Excellence in Realistic Australian Bird Art (2022–2025) and the UK’s Sketch for Survival competition (2024–2025).
