2026

Hannah first came onto my radar through her wonderful books on the business of art, which I discovered while browsing the shelves of the Hobart Bookshop. Not long after, we met through the Salamanca Arts Centre while I was exhibiting at SOCIAL Gallery. Hannah has a studio upstairs at SAC, and she’s exactly as you’d hope—kind, generous, and deeply committed to her practice and community. She gives so much of her time and knowledge to supporting other artists.

That same sense of care carries through her paintings. Her contemporary landscapes are filled with shifting light and soft colour, creating atmospheric spaces that feel calm, expansive, and grounding. The works move beyond a specific location into something more emotional and immersive, inviting a slower way of looking.

I deeply value artists like Hannah—not only for the work they make, but for the generosity they bring to the people around them. There’s a quiet strength and sincerity in everything she does.

About the Work

Glimpse of Sunlight captures a fleeting break in the clouds, where soft light emerges above a moody landscape, bringing warmth, contrast, and a quiet sense of hope.

Artist Bio

Hannah Blackmore is a contemporary landscape and seascape painter, originally from Jersey in the Channel Islands and now based in Hobart, Tasmania. Growing up surrounded by the sea and influenced by artistic parents, she developed an early connection to both creativity and the natural world, a relationship that continues to shape her work today.

After completing a degree in Fine Art painting, Hannah relocated to Tasmania, where she committed fully to life as a professional artist. The island’s shifting light, rugged coastline, and expansive skies have become an ongoing source of inspiration, informing a practice that is grounded in atmosphere rather than exact representation. Her paintings are less about a specific place and more about capturing the feeling of a landscape - the calm before a storm, the weight of mist, or the glow of light on the horizon.

Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, Hannah has developed a distinctive technique of mixing plaster with paint to create richly textured surfaces. Applied with both palette knives and brushes, these layers build depth and movement, allowing each painting to hold both structure and spontaneity. Her work often features stormy skies, coastal horizons, and minimal compositions, unified by a strong sense of colour and light.

Now a full-time artist with over a decade of professional practice, Hannah has exhibited regularly and built a strong collector base both within Australia and internationally. Her paintings are held in private collections and are created with the intention of bringing a sense of calm, space, and connection to the natural world into the homes they inhabit.
