What Cannot Be Kept

This work is from my memory. At aged five or six I hooked this little Leatherjacket. I thought it was the most beautiful fish I had ever seen. I wanted its bright, vibrant colours to last forever, so I slipped it in my pocket, took it home and housed it in a glass jar. It lasted a few days in my bedroom, until my mother put it at the back of the garden and broke the news that it couldn't be kept.
